Fourth of July ... baseball style.

If I were to close my eyes and paint a Fourth of July picture in my mind, it would look something like this.  A lot of red, white, and blue... a party with family and friends ... a parade that boasts local marching bands, classic cars, firetrucks, tractors, and horses.  There would be typical American style food, sparklers, and fireworks.  Lots of laughter and kids playing everywhere.

Sounds about right.  Right?!

Enter baseball.  Then the Fourth of July changes just a little bit.  There may not be the big BBQ full of friends and family, or the local parade excitement, but there's still a chance to make some fun memories.  A couple of days prior to the holiday, the kids and I made some star wands for our own mini parade in our backyard.  We also did some baking to create some yummy treats!

On July 4th we did what any baseball family would do.  We celebrated at the ballpark, cheering on our team, wearing red, white, and blue baseball shirts.  After all, it is America's favorite past time, so it does kind of make sense. :)

The night before the 4th was also extra special ... that's when we watched our fireworks.  After the game, we were able to watch the fireworks from the field with Jim.  Abby doted her headphones (of course), while Levi cupped his hands over his ears.  These two just don't like the loud sounds, but they seemed to really enjoy the artwork display in the sky.  What a special moment!

So even though holidays don't always feel like they should, it's fun to make memories in new, exciting ways.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July - and to all our family and friends, know that you were surely missed!
